HIGH BRIDGE MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
June 2009

To The High Bridge School Community

As June 18th draws near, I would like to express how much I have enjoyed working with the children, parents and staff of High Bridge Schools.  I sincerely believe that the children in High Bridge Schools will define the future and be the leaders of tomorrow, for collectively, their talents seem limitless.

HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY SUMMER!

Sincerely,
Dr. William A. Caldwell

Fifth Grade Orientation - Welcome to the Middle School

Thank you to all the eighth grade Student Leaders who participated in the Fifth Grade Move Up Day program on Wednesday, May 27th.  These students spoke to the fifth grade students and were in charge of touring the middle school with individual groups.  Thank you again for helping to make this program so successful!

On the evening of May 27th, parents of our incoming sixth grade class were invited to attend our Annual Sixth Grade Parent Orientation.  During the evening, parents had an opportunity to meet their child’s prospective teachers, become familiar with the sixth grade curriculum, tour the facility and learn about supplemental and co-curricular programs.  We’re looking forward to greeting the “Class of 2012” in September!

Report Cards

Report cards will be distributed to those students meeting all school obligations (such as returning all books, paying outstanding fines, etc.) on Wednesday, June 17, 2009.  There is a 1:00 p.m. dismissal for all students on that day.

Science Expo at the Middle School

Thank you to the students for their participation in Saturday’s Science Expo.  Two guest scientists stated you were well behaved and well prepared.  Four student won science prizes that included 4 tickets to the Museum of Natural History.

Tournament of Champions

The Tournament of Champions was held this year on May 19th at Delaware Valley High School.  Participants enjoyed exciting competition and it was a great day for all.  Thanks to Mrs. Pat Tuma for coordinating the Middle School participants.  All students in attendance were recognized for their achievements.

Summer Music Program

A summer instrumental music program for students entering grades four through eight (next year’s grade) will be held from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm in the Middle School.  The program will run from Tuesday, June 30, 2009 through Thursday, July 30, 2009.  If additional information is needed, please call Mr. Jeffrey Thompson, Band Director, at the Middle School (638-4101).

Sports News - Ms. Nicole DiGeronimo and Ms. Melissa Dilgard, Athletic Directors

Baseball - Coach Jeff White

This team, with the 8th graders leading the way and the 6th and 7th graders stepping up and making a huge impact with their much improved play, exceeded way beyond Coach White's early expectations and met all of the teams' goals for the season except qualifying for the play-offs. Unfortunately, mother nature played the spoiler on much of the season with so many rain-outs. Many thanks go out to Ms. Dilgard for her many efforts and support of the team and for all her attempts at rescheduling the missed games!  Congratulations to the 2009 Hilltopper baseball team; it was a short, but memorable season!

 Softball - Coach Jerry Tolomeo

LADY TOPPERS - It took me three seasons and over 7 years to win my first softball game at High Bridge and the 2009 Lady Toppers did for me in their first game (an 11-9 victory over Franklin Twp). The Toppers went on to finish the season at 2-4 and just missing out on a long awaited trip to the tournament by one game.  I would like to say thank you to all the girls, especially the 8th graders, for my first 2 victories and for all the enjoyment you gave me this year coaching you. .

I would just like to say how proud I am of all the girls for all they have done this year. I have never seen a group of kids learn the fundamentals of the game of softball so quick in such a short time. I’d like to wish all the 8th graders the best of luck in the all they do in the future. They are great group of girls and I will miss every one of them. Once again congrats to all the girls for a great season.

Intramural Golf - Coach Michael Doerwang

I would like to extend a “round” of applause to all the golf club participants who made this golf season an enjoyable experience once again.  To my 8th grade golfers - great job everyone and good luck in high school!  To my 7th grade students – glad you came out and hope we can “hit the links” again next year.  And thank you to all the family members who came to the course to pick up your children each week.  We couldn’t do it without you.  Kids, keep working on your skills. Eye on the ball.  Feet steady – no “dancing.”  No corkscrew swings.  Left arm straight.  Railroad tracks! (My golfers understand what that means).  Have a great summer everyone!
